Romney: apathetic or just pathetic?
Why is it that every time I see Romney doing something, I feel like facepalming and crawling under a rock? He tries so hard to make himself seem like he understands and can relate to the average joe, then either in the next breath (or the same breath), or his very next action he's proving that to be false. In a very pronounced way. And I just have to think, "this is what the rest of the world is seeing as an example of American success..." and I have to headdesk.
And let's not get started on that tour abroad he did...just...please...
And part of me also has to wonder if maybe he really believes his own lies. Do you think he and his wife believe that they really are relating to and understanding the average American? I doubt he really cares whether he does or not, but do you think he says to himself, "Eh, whatever. I can relate, they're all just gullible good-for-nothings it's not like rocket science is needed to relate to them." And honestly thinks he really is relating? I wonder if he's confused when people insist he can't relate to the average American because of the things he does to try to prove he can. I just wonder what goes on in his mind at those moments.
I feel sorry for the people who are tasked with selling him to the American people and making him seem like someone you would want to vote for, someone who is trustworthy and can and will get the job done. I feel sorry for the people who are tasked with trying to get Romney to successfully present himself as someone like that when he goes to give an interview or a speech or make some sort of appearance somewhere. I can imagine the worried buzz from these people thinking, "God, I hope he doesn't fuck this up" and then five seconds later, "God, he fucked this shit up, now what?!"
